Author's Blog

I am a author. What exactly does that mean? It can mean a ton of things. A journalist, a novelist, a poet, or so many more. They all have creative expression. Everyone is creative in their own way. They express their feelings in a creative form. It can be as simple as saying how you feel, or it can be a mystery like a poem. There are so many ways to express yourself. I prefer righting novels. Recently I finished a rough draft of a novel called When Things Go The Wrong Right Way. When I started writing this I made a very important goal, keep the reader hooked. For me that means keeping the book a page turner. I have read many books and they all have that very very very long introduction. They take it slow setting the scene, the characters, putting the story together. That's great and is very important, but I am impatient. I don't like to wait for the book to turn into a page turner. So I tried to jump into the story with as much detail and action as I could. Okay wait.... It's not that easy. Before I started this draft I started a different one. It was the same story, but a lot more dark and depressing. It was slow. So I started over. I now regret erasing that document. Luckily I have a hard copy, but still. I created the back story to my character. Stop. I'm getting too far ahead of myself. The first thing you need to know about me is my obsession. I am obsessed with vampires. Now I know some of you are like ugh, we have enough vampire obsessed girls out there. Just hang in a little longer. I have been obsessed with vampires since the first movie came out in 2008. So about so almost nine years now. Once that door opened, I was hooked and since then I have been exploring. I have watched everything that had to do with vampires. I watched everything from Buffy The Vampire Slayer to The Lost Boys. I saw a lot of different perspectives. I loved the Disney Channel original series My Babysitter's A Vampire. I have watched a lot. Now for those people who can't stand vampires I will take a break from them. I have loved writing for a long time, but I never really knew if I was "good" at it. The truth is, I don't think it's possible to be bad at writing. Sure you might not be great at a certain "type" of writing, but you are not bad at every type. If you truly express yourself, no one can tell you it's wrong. No one can say well you aren't expressing yourself the "right way". Who knows if there is a right way. My first real writing memory that stands out is when I was in 5th grade I wrote this short story about gummy bears. It was about these gummy bears who had a problem because people kept wanting to eat them. So they went to see a scientist to get superpowers. The people then got sad without the taste of delicious gummy bears. In the end the gummy bears created the little tiny gummy bears that are not alive that you are free to snack on. Well everyone seemed to love this story and that memory has stuck with me ever since. Well about two years ago I started writing this book and just like J.K. Rowling wrote the ending paragraph to the Harry Potter books before she even finished the first book I wrote the ending to my book before I finished the first part. When I say part I mean section or really long chapter. For me chapters were always hard, you had to close up your thought or what was happening and then start a new one. Well I made my book into five separate parts. Each part consists of it's own major conflict that together makes up Marie's (the main character or narrator) story. On the author portion of this blog I want to focus on creative expression and the struggles I went through to finish the rough draft of my novel, which one day I hope to get published.
